Advanced CT Imaging in
Sarasota’s Medical District
A CT scan ordered by your doctor is time-sensitive. You don’t want to wait three weeks at a hospital imaging center when same-day options exist closer to home. That’s the reality most Sarasota patients don’t know about until they call us.
At RAVE Radiology’s Sarasota location on Cattlemen Road, we’ve built our CT program around two things: image clarity and speed. Our low-dose CT scanner produces detailed cross-sectional images of virtually any part of your body, and our team of eight board-certified radiologists typically turns around a full report within 24 hours.
We’re not a hospital. We’re an independent imaging center, which means shorter waits, more flexible scheduling, and pricing that’s often significantly lower than what you’d pay at a hospital-based center.

What to Expect During Your
CT Scan at RAVE Sarasota
Before Your Appointment:
- Abdominal/pelvic CT: avoid food 2-4 hours beforehand
- CT with contrast: kidney function check if you have diabetes or kidney disease
- Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. Leave jewellery at home
- Arrive 15 minutes early for registration
After Your CT Scan:
Resume normal activities immediately. Drink plenty of water if contrast was used. Radiologist report typically delivered to your physician within 24 hours. Access your report through our secure patient portal.
You’ll lie on a flat table that moves through the CT scanner ring (not a closed tunnel — open on both ends). The scan takes 10-30 minutes. If contrast is used, you may feel a brief warm sensation. Our technologist is in constant communication throughout.

Common Questions About
CT Scans in Sarasota
“How much does a CT scan cost in Sarasota?”
It depends on your scan type and insurance. We verify coverage before your appointment so you know what to expect — no surprise bills. Self-pay rates at RAVE are often significantly lower than hospital-based imaging centers. Call 941-488-7781 for an upfront quote. Interest-free payment plans available with no credit check.
“Do I need a referral for a CT scan in Sarasota?”
Most CT scans require a physician’s order. If your doctor referred you, that’s all you need. For questions about specific screenings like cardiac calcium scoring, call us and we’ll sort it out quickly.
“How long until I get my CT results?”
Radiologist report typically within 24 hours, sent directly to your referring physician. Urgent findings are communicated the same day. Access your images and report anytime via our patient portal.
“Is a CT scan safe? How much radiation does it use?”
CT does use ionising radiation, but our low-dose technology keeps exposure as low as reasonably achievable while producing diagnostic-quality images. Your physician orders CT because the diagnostic benefit outweighs the small risk. Don’t hesitate to ask our team about dose if you have concerns.
“How is CT different from an MRI?”
CT is faster, better for bone and lung imaging, and works with most metal implants. MRI takes longer but provides superior soft tissue detail with no radiation. Your doctor chooses based on what needs to be evaluated.
CT Scan vs MRI vs X-Ray —
Which One Do You Need?
CT is best for: Bone fractures, chest/lung imaging, emergency trauma, blood vessel studies, cancer staging, calcium scoring. Faster than MRI (5-30 min). Uses radiation.
MRI is best for: Brain, spine, joints, soft tissue tumours, detailed organ imaging. No radiation. Slower (30-60 min). Not ideal for lungs.
X-Ray is best for: Simple bone fractures, chest overview, arthritis joints. Fastest and least expensive. Limited soft tissue detail.
Your physician determines the most appropriate imaging. Not sure what you’ve been referred for? Call us at 941-488-7781 and we’ll clarify.
