Digital X-ray

An X – ray is a painless and quick test for the patient to endure. It involves exposing the part of the body that is being examined to a small dose of ionizing radiation to produce pictures of the inside of the body.

What is X-Ray?

An x-ray is a medical test that physicians use to diagnosis and treat their patient’s medical conditions. It is the oldest and most commonly used form of medical testing. An X – ray is a painless and quick test for the patient to endure. It involves exposing the part of the body that is being examined to a small dose of ionizing radiation to produce pictures of the inside of the body.

X -ray is also used to diagnose various conditions of the lungs including pneumonia, tumors and changes of heart failure. It also is used to diagnose fractures and other abnormalities of bones, joint conditions, and causes of abdominal pain. When more detail is needed, your physician may follow up with a CT scan, and X-rays are also available at our Sarasota location.

Fluoroscopy involves using X-rays to take “live” images of the body. It is typically used to examine the gastrointestinal tract such as the esophagus, stomach, small intestine and colon.

Frequently Asked Questions About Digital X-Ray

How long does a digital X-ray take?
Most X-ray visits take 10 to 15 minutes from start to finish, and the imaging itself takes only seconds. It’s one of the quickest exams we offer.
How do I prepare for an X-ray?
No special preparation is needed. Wear comfortable clothing without metal zippers, snaps, or jewelry near the area being imaged. Depending on the exam, you may be asked to change into a gown.
How much radiation does a digital X-ray use?
Very little. Digital X-ray systems use a fraction of the dose of older film-based equipment, and a routine chest X-ray involves about as much radiation as you’d naturally receive from the environment over a few days. If you’re pregnant or think you might be, let our team know before your exam.
Do I need a doctor's order for an X-ray?
Most diagnostic imaging, including X-ray, requires an order from your healthcare provider. If you’re not sure what your order covers, call us at 941-488-7781 and our team will help you sort it out.
When will I get my X-ray results?
A board-certified radiologist interprets your images and sends a report to your referring provider, who will review the results with you. If your situation is time-sensitive, call us at 941-488-7781 and we’ll do our best to help.
