Interventional Radiology

Interventional Radiology is a subspecialtly of radiology in which minimally invasive procedures are performed using imaging guidance. Some of these procedures are done for purely diagnostic purposes, while others are done for treatment purposes. Pictures are used to direct these procedures, which are usually done with needles or other tiny instruments like small tubes called catheters. The images provide road maps that allow the Interventional Radiologist to guide these instruments through the body to the areas of interest.

Meet our Interventional radiologists

Interventional Radiology is done with a team of professionals.  In addition to interventional radiologists, the IR team includes licensed Radiologic Technologists and Registered Nurses. Each member of the team has specialized training in interventional procedures and advanced nursing care. We continually adopt the latest technology and master new techniques in order to better serve our patients and provide them with the utmost care available in the field.

Advantages of Interventional Radiology

  • Procedures require no large incisions; they are usually performed through a small nick the size of the lead tip of a pencil.
  • Since there is no open surgery, there are no large scars following the procedures.
  • Most procedures can be performed on an outpatient basis.
  • Patients rarely require general anesthesia, typically moderate sedation is utilized.
  • Risk, pain, and recovery time are often significantly reduced.
  • The procedures are sometimes less expensive than surgery or other alternatives

Peripheral Artery Disease and treatments

What is platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and what are PRP injections?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy uses injections of a concentration of a patient’s own platelets to accelerate the healing of injured tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints. In this way, PRP injections use each individual patient's own healing system to improve musculoskeletal problems.

PRP injections are prepared by taking anywhere from one to a few tubes of your own blood and running it through a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets. These activated platelets are then injected directly into your injured or diseased body tissue. This releases growth factors that stimulate and increase the number of reparative cells your body produces.

Our Physicians are here to answer any of your questions regarding this procedure.
